16-year-old Anika Varma, the varsity player at Granite Bay High School in California, shot 68-71-69 for 8-under 208 to finish fourth at Las Colinas Golf Club on the Cactus Tour. Anika’s total was just five-strokes shorter than the winner, 29-year-old Britney Yada in Arizona, a Symetra Tour professional.

Anika, who has been attending her school online due to pandemic has observed a halt to her school tournament schedule and to keep her game sharp, she has been participating at the local amateur events in California and repeatedly travelling to play professional events on the Cactus Tour in Arizona. The Cactus Tour is the only professional tour which did not stop its schedule despite COVID-19.
Earlier, Anika won the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour(HJGT) event in California played out at Bayonet and Black Horse course from Oct.31st – Nov.1st and in August, became the first Indian to play in the prestigious U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. She currently stands 175 on the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), making her the highest-ranked Indian.
