The Bakshi sisters – 15-year-old Hitaashee and 17-year-old Jahanvi from Delhi will turn pro starting December 7th at the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour event at DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurgaon.
Hitaashee at 15 is slated to become the youngest ever Indian woman professional, surpassing Mysore’s Pranavi Urs, who turned professional earlier this year at 16 years and 10 months.
Both girls started playing golf in 2011 and a year later, started participating in tournaments. Playing the Indian Golf Union’s Junior Feeder tour, National and International tours. Excelling from a young age, Hitaashee was Number One in “E” Category Girls in 2013, “D” Category 2014, and “C” Category 2016 as per IGU Order of Merit.
She won the Army Ladies Open in 2013 and 2019, has represented India in 7 countries, Hong-Kong, Singapore, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Japan, and Malaysia. In 2018, she even won the Hong Kong Junior Golf Championship and in 2019 was a part of the Indian Queen Sirikit Cup team along with her sister, Jahanavi, where they finished sixth. She was India’s Number 1 Amateur in 2019 on the IGU Order of Merit. Hitaashee added, “I have been looking forward to this moment my whole life. I am proud to say that I am officially a professional golfer. The game has taken me to so many incredible places and people already. I cannot wait to see what’s in it for me down the line. I’m thrilled to take on the challenge and test my skills on the professional platform with the best players in the country.”
The elder sister Jahanvi has represented India in 5 countries, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. She was India’s Number 1 Amateur in 2018 on the IGU Order of Merit and won back to back Albatross International Junior Golf Championships in 2017 and 2018.
Talking about her aspirations, Jahanvi said, “I’m very excited to turn professional and to embark upon this new journey. I am physically and mentally ready to start this new chapter of my life. My amateur golf career was an absolute blast, I’ve had so much fun, met so many great people, and made so many incredible memories. Now it’s time for me to test my game at the next level against the best of best.”
