33-year-old Anirban Lahiri and 29-year-old Rashid Khan have been leading pro performers on two opposite sides of the world. While Anirban plays the lucrative PGA TOUR in America, Rashid plays in Asia and the domestic PGTI tour. Interestingly while Anirban has earned the equivalent of Rs 4.3 crores in prize money in the past 24 months, Rashid has earned around half that or Rs 2.1 crores. However with PGTI winners getting Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points since Jan 2019, Rashid enjoys a ranking of 285 while Anirban languishes at 435.
It’s also interesting to note that the winner of a ₹30 lac PGTI event earns 5 world ranking points which is more than the 4.56 points Anirban earned for his recent 6th place finish on the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship on the USPGA Tour ! However in terms of prize money, while the PGTI winner would earn a paltry ₹4.8 lacs, Anirban by contrast earned US$ 140,000 or ₹1 crore approx !
Both players will be vying for a spot in the Tokyo Olympics, based on their world ranking points, from very different routes and with very different money at stake !
