NEW JERSEY, U.S.A

The United States Golf Association (USGA)  demonstrated its intent of becoming a more marketing oriented organisation by naming Mike Whan, outgoing Commissioner of the Ladies PGA Tour ( LPGA) as its new Chief Executive.

The LPGA Tour experienced historic growth in virtually every aspect during the 11 year tenure of Whan, who is considered a marketing whiz kid who recognises the need of golf to modernize and move with the times.

This is an important lesson for national golf organisations around the world and  in India like the Indian Golf Union and Professional Golf Tour of India who have traditionally stayed away from a marketing oriented approach to their functioning.

Whan will lead an organization that conducts 14 national championships, including the U.S. Open, as well as international and team competitions. Additionally, in conjunction with the R&A in Scotland, the USGA writes, interprets and administers the Rules of Golf.
