20-year-old Chandigarh girl Sifat Sagoo moved in 2019 to Purdue University, near Chicago, to play college golf while earning her undergraduate degree. Sagoo was last week named on the Dean’s List for her fourth consecutive semester while scoring a 3.5 GPA. She is pursuing her degree in Organisational Leadership while honing her golf skills. Sagoo had a solid amateur record in India where she was the Best Indian Amateur at the 2018 Hero Women’s Indian Open on the Ladies European Tour.
Sifat, currently ranked 308 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), finished 6th at the Indiana Invitational after shooting 75-70-71 (even-par 216) in April.
Talking about her mention on the Dean’s List, Sifat said, “It feels great to make it to the dean’s list for the fourth semester in a row. Before coming to college i was nervous about how to handle academics but thanks to my coaches and the Purdue athletics department for helping me out!”

Two weeks back, Sifat was at the controversially concluded Baton Rouge tournament in Louisiana, when the NCAA decided to cancel the tournament without even a single shot being hit and calling the course unplayable, cutting short the college season for numerous senior athletes.

On May 13, Sam “Riggs” Bozoian, of Barstool Sports fame, made a big announcement on Twitter: “Barstool would host a season-ending tournament for teams like North Texas, who had spent three agonizing days in rainy Baton Rouge hoping for a chance to play their way into the national championship.” The new tournament was called “Let Them Play Classic” a second chance for closure, where Sifat Sagoo was a participant and finished tied-4th with scores of 70-75-70 (1-under par) and her Purdue team (4-under par) finished runner-up, seven-strokes behind the North Texas team. The new event was played at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona from May 20-22.

Talking about her recent performance, she said, “ It was devastating when our season was cut short in Baton Rouge but thanks to barstool we got a second chance to play. The tournament was organized so much better than the tournaments we usually play and I shot 1 under over the three days.”
