16-year-old former Noida girl Anika Varma, now completing high school in Sacramento, California, had another solid week of tournament golf finishing runners-up at the Northern California Golf Association’s 71st California Junior Girls’ State Championship at Monterey Peninsula Country Club in California from June 21-25.
Anika was defeated by San Jose resident Kiara Romero by 3&2 in the finals in the five days long tournament. However, before losing to Kiara in the finals, Anika came through the two rounds of stroke-play format and moved to the match-play rounds to defeat Sydney Sung 3&2 in Round of 32, Skyler May on the 21st hole in Round of 16, Naomi Danner by 5&4 in Quarterfinals, and Ellie Bushnell by 3&2 in the Semifinals.
Earlier this month, Anika finished tied-19th at the Southwestern Amateur in Arizona, finished tied-5th at the California Women’s Amateur and in May, she made it to the Pre-Quarters of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Fourball Championship.
