Anirban Lahiri, who last week successfully qualified for the first of 3 stages of the PGA Tour’s season ending FedExCup Playoffs, shot scores of 69-69-71 at the US$ 9.5mn Northern Trust, and barring a final round 62 will not go forward to the next stage.

The Northern Trust tournament is set to finish on Monday as tropical storm Henri caused PGA Tour officials to cancel play on Sunday.

With only the top 70 ranked players in cumulative season earnings after the Northern Trust set to move to the 2nd stage, Lahiri who entered the week ranked 118th needed to finish top-10 or better this week to get into the top 70.

Barring an unlikely 62 on Monday, Lahiri’s 2020 – 21 PGA Tour season will come to an end and he can now resume play when the 2021 – 22 season starts as early as September with the US$ 6.6mn Safeway Open.

In 2021, Lahiri’s best of a tied-3rd finish came at the US$3.5mn Barbasol Championship, where he missed out to be in a three-way playoff by a shot. Overall, Lahiri had a decent PGA Tour season which included three top-10s, 12 cuts and close to a million dollars in official prize money.

Lahiri took a major career risk with his 2022 playing rights  by missing a couple of weeks on the PGA Tour and electing to represent India at the Tokyo Olympics.

On the stats front, Lahiri fared quite well in driving but his approaches and short game need improvement in order for him to move up the rankings in 2022.
