Manav Bais, a Gurgaon based professional, and Akshay Neranjen, a Bengaluru-based amateur, shared the honours in the PGTI Qualifying School’s Pre Qualifying I event.
The 20-year-old Bais rebounded from an opening round 74 with a four-under 68 that included four birdies and a chip-in eagle on the par-5 14th. Neranjen, who recently represented India at the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in Dubai, shot rounds of 70 and 72. The pair finished at two-under 142 after 36 holes.
Bishmadpal Singh Seerha was solo third at even-par 144. The cut was declared at 9-over 153 on a day when the course played extremely windy.
A total of 101 players teed off in the event, which is being played at Kalhaar Blues & Greens Golf Club in Ahmedabad. The top 26 move on to the Final Qualifying Stage.
The Pre Q II will see 99 and Pre Q III will see 90 players tee off for a spot in the final stage. Those who make it will be joined by the 48 players who received direct entry in the Final Stage.
However, it is unclear when the remaining Qualifying events will be played. Originally scheduled for January 10 – 20, the events have been postponed due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases throughout the country. The new dates for these events will be announced in the near future.
