Zara Anand, a 13-year-old scratch handicap student at Shiv Nadar School in Noida, shot 81-79-78 (22-over 238) to finish a highly creditable fourth in the Under 14 age group at the prestigious R&A Girls Juniors Amateur Championship in England.
Overall Anand, the only entrant from India, finished the Under 16 event in a tie for 30th among 88 girls representing 15 countries.
Anand, who is in the eighth standard, has already played three tournaments as an amateur on the Hero Women’s Professional tour in India and has finished in the top 10 in two of them.
Her current handicap index of 0.7, and her past performances earned her an invite by the R&A. The U16 Amateur Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event introduced in 2018 by The R&A to boost the girls’ game in Great Britain and Ireland, and provide a pathway to the elite amateur level for leading young players.
