Anirban Lahiri to be announced as LIV Golf player in next 24 hrs

With LIV Golf stirring up emotions all over the world over the future of pro golf – finally comes the unexpected news that PGA Tour member Anirban Lahiri who is enjoying his best year on tour since he joined in 2015 has picked up an offer from LIV to join the tour on a two year contract.

Major international media outlets have already confirmed the news although neither Lahiri nor LIV have made it official.

The main driver in favour of Anirban is his 2nd place finish at this years’ “Players’ Championship”, the US$ 20 million flagship “major” created by the PGA Tour. After LIV locked up the Player’s winner Cameron Smith, and once they get Anirban, they will have the No 1 & 2 from “The Players’ “ – a snub to the PGA Tour.

Obviously Anirban picked the one high profile event for his best finish ever on tour which made him an attractive target for LIV Golf.

In the 2021-2022 season, Lahiri earned US$ 3mn (INR 24 crores), his best year ever.

According to Alan Shipnuck, a longtime golf writer who recently wrote a Phil Mickelson biography,  “LIV will announce seven new signees, including one long-rumoured superstar” on Monday, “This is not a collection of old-timers playing out the string or unknowns plucked from second-tier international tours” . “All seven,”  he said, “competed in the FedEx St. Jude Championship a few weeks ago”.

Along with Lahiri, others joining LIV GOLF include British Open and Player’s Championship winner Cameron Smith, African American Harold Varner III, Aussie Marc Leishman, PGA Tour member Cameron Tringale.

Cameron Tringale has already confirmed the news on his social media platforms. We await Lahiri’s official announcement.
