Japan Senior Tour: Jeev finishes 18th
Jeev Milkha Singh played his maiden major in Japan
Jeev Milkha Singh, India’s only senior player on a major professional circuit, shot 72-73-73-71 (1-over 289) to finish tied-18th at the US$ 3.5 mn 61st Japan PGA Senior Championship in Ibaraki prefecture near Tokyo for his best performance since finishing 3rd in Europe on a Legends tour event a couple of months back.
Former Asian Tour No. 1, Prayad Marksaeng of Thailand shot 68-70-70-67 (13-under 275) for a comfortable five-shot victory over Katsumasa Miyamoto, who shot 68-73-69-70 (8-under 280).
LIV Golf: Lahiri struggles in Bangkok
Lahiri has now played three LIV events
Anirban Lahiri shot 71-71-70 (4-under 212) to finish 41st at the US$ 25mn LIV Golf Bangkok event, the tour’s debut in Asia.
Lahiri has now played three events on the Saudi-backed tour, finishing T2nd and 23rd in his previous two outings.
Lahiri however had the satisfaction of his team, captained by long hitting Bryson De Chambeau, finishing 2nd in the Team competition.
The LIV Golf Bangkok event was won by 22-year-old Spaniard Eugenio-Lopez Chacarra, who shot 65-63-69 (19-under 197), to beat 2018 Masters Champion Patrick Reed, who shot 68-65-67 (16-under 200), by three shots. It was Chacarra’s first professional win in only his sixth event.
Chacarra was a former college star at Oklahoma State University, who turned pro in June to play on the LIV Tour and was No. 2 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking before he signed a three-year contract with the Saudi-backed LIV tour.
The tour heads to Saudi Arabia for next week’s LIV Golf Invitational in Jeddah from Oct. 14-16 before the final in Miami which is only a team competition.
LPGA Tour: Aditi makes cut in California
Aditi’s season has had mixed bag of results
Aditi Ashok shot 71-74-73-72 (2-over 290) to finish tied 66th at the US$ 1.8mn LPGA Mediheal Championship at The Saticoy Club at Somis in California.
Ashok has now made four of her last five cuts after making just one cut in her previous six events. Over the course of the season, she has made 15 cuts from 25 events this year. Her official earnings of US$ 178,900 (₹1.47 crores) leaves her 96th on the Money List, well outside the top 60 who qualify for the Tour finals but given a few more good finishes should see her retain her playing rights on the LPGA Tour next year.
The tournament was won by Jodi Ewart Shadoff of England who shot 64-69-69-71 (15-under 273) for a one-shot victory over Yuka Saso of Japan at 70-70-68-66 (14-under 274). It was Shadoff’s first win on the LPGA Tour and came in her 246th event.
College Golf – Raghav Chugh finishes 2nd
Raghav Chugh is impressive in his freshman year
Raghav Chugh from New Delhi, a former India No 1 amateur, and now a first-year student playing college golf at Rice University in Houston, shot 67-68-69 (6-under 204) to finish second by just one stroke at a college event in Colorado.
Chugh’s team, Rice University. finished third at the competition.
Chugh has been setting various performance records for his University team as he tied the 36-hole school record (135) and his 54-hole score of 204 tied the second-lowest score in Rice Universityl history.
He now has nine scores in the 60s in his college career. He’s also recorded five rounds of par or better this year and has 20 in his college career.
Chugh recently represented India at the World Amateur Team Championship (Eisenhower Trophy) in Paris where he teamed up with Milind Soni and Rayhan Thomas, Indian national who grew up in Dubai, who is also playing college golf in USA .
Epson Tour: Nishtha misses cut in season finale
Nishtha Madan finishes 73rd on the Tour’s Money List
24-year-old Nishtha Madan shot 72-73 (1-over 145) to miss the cut at the US$ 250,000 Epson Tour Championship at Daytona Beach in Florida to conclude her 2022 season.
Nishtha has managed only 9 cuts in 19 events with her best-finish of T5th coming early in the year in California in March. Her season earnings of US$ 19,756 (₹16.3 lacs) sees her finish 73rd on the Epson Tour’s Money list, making her eligible to continue playing there next year. Members in the top-80 and ties on the previous season-ending Money List keep A category card for the following season.
Nishtha will now travel to India for the Hero Women’s Indian Open scheduled for Oct. 20-23 at DLF Golf & CC in Gurgaon.
