It is always heartening to hear about how clubs and certain members rally support to uplift the condition of caddies working at their clubs. In this regard, Delhi GC has played a pioneering role.
Over 500 golfers took part in the 9TH annual Caddy Welfare Trust CHARITY MEMBERS GOLF TOURNAMENT over the 4th & 5th of April at Delhi GC. The 5 am thunder and lightning on the 4th made way for a perfect start to two chock-a-block days of golf.
Once again there was delicious fare, flowing Fratelli, Tanqueray cocktails, chilled Corona, delicious Cohoma coffee and mouth-watering Nirulas Hot Chocolate Fudge, for all to enjoy! A generous list of over 40 lucky draw gifts sent many home delighted and the keenly contested gross and nett prizes provided for a worthy list of winners. This year, the array of ‘spot’ prize sponsors, including Nicobar, Hughes, Three Sixty, Opium and Ocean were an added hit. The generous sponsors of the overflowing goody bag, sent everyone home ‘loaded’!
Delhi Golf Club, its Secretariat, Administration and Course team have always been key to the success of the event; this year no less than six Lady Captains volunteered along with other Ladies Section members, to ensure a wonderful day of golf. Also heartening was that over 500 caddies bagged a round, earning a daily wage, alongwith snacks and a hot meal arranged by the Trust; plus CWT gave every caddy whose ‘player’ won a spot prize Rs. 100/-!
CWT’s continued work for caddies and their families has grown tremendously, with a big push in the area of education. The CWT tournament Prize Distribution kicked off with a felicitation of 14 DGC caddies children who had attended and excelled in the Computer Classes CWT has been holding at DGC this past year, in collaboration with Amity Humanity Foundation; working closely with Mandira Bhalla Lamba and Amba Batra Bakshi (B-590), along with their kids Aaryaveer, Aftab and Firoza, Trustee Guneeta Duggal (D-287) further organised English conversation classes with Amar Raj Singh (S-960), attended by over 20 kids each week.
The Delhi Golf Club President, Mr. K.K. Bajoria was generous in his praise for the CWT’s work and presented several tournament prizes. During the speeches, members’ suggestions included CWT charging an entry fee for the event and the members’ annual voluntary contribution to the Trust should be increased. CWT reiterated their commitment and support of DGC’s caddies and going forward promised smart new caddy uniforms in the near future, in conjunction with Havells and, a caddy inter-club event which is always keenly contested and highly successful for DGC’s caddies!
