Zara Anand, Bajwa win at Haryana Ladies Amateur

Zara Anand, age 14,  a student at Shiv Nadar School in Noida, won the girls A&B category title while 18 year old Puneet Kaur Bajwa beat Zara in a playoff to win the Ladies Open title at the IGU’s Ladies Amateur Tour event in  Panchkula last week. 

While Zara won the girls B category by a massive 13 strokes and the girls A and B combined by six strokes, for the ladies title Bajwa made up an 8 stroke deficit in the 3rd round. Bajwa shot 71-73-70 while Anand shot 69-67-78. They both finished at 2-under 214. 

Bajwa, who is a student at Ryan International School in Chandigarh, has already committed to play golf at Old Dominion University in Virginia, USA starting this August. 

Over the past three years, Bajwa has posted multiple Top-10 finishes on the Indian Golf Union circuit. She finished as a semifinalist at the IGU All-India Amateur Golf Championship in Bombay in 2019. In 2021, she registered a fourth-place finish in the fourth leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour in April, followed by a runner-up finish in the 10th leg of the tour in October. In December 2021, Bajwa secured a second-place finish at the IGU All-India Junior and Sub-Junior Golf Championship.

Zara will be heading to Scotland for the R&A Girls Under 16 Junior Championship, the only Indian invited to the event where she hopes to improve on her performance last year where she finished 30th in the 54 hole event.

Prarthana Khanna shot 11-over 227 total to finish 3rd in Girls B Category

Winner – Zara Anand – 69-67-78 (2-under 214)

Runner-Up – Saanvi Somu – 77-75-75 (11-over 227)

C Girls – 

Winner – Shambhavi Chaturvedi – 78-81-75 (18-over 234)

Runner-Up – Guntas Kaur Sandhu – 84-71-80 (19-over 235)
