Mannat, Nishna to represent India in England

Mannat Brar and Nishna Patel to play the Women’s Amateur Championship this week

17-year-old Mannat Brar from Chandigarh and 16-year-old Nishna Patel from Mumbai will represent India at this week’s Women’s Amateur Championship, hosted by the R&A at the Prince’s in England from June 13-18.

Nishna is coming off a creditable tied-2nd finish at the Asia-Pacific Golf Federation (APGC) Junior Championship in Manila, Philippines, with impressive scores of 74-70-69. She has represented the country in events such as Women’s Aamateur Asia Pacific ( WAAP)  in Singapore, the Queen Sirikit Cup, and the Women’s Australian Master of the Masters. 

Similarly, Mannat represented India at the WAAP in Singapore in March and has since notched up two wins and a 2nd place on the IGU national tour. She scored consecutive wins at the NCR Cup in Delhi and IGU’s Karnataka Ladies & Junior Girls Golf Championship last month.

The Women’s Amateur championship, founded in 1893, attracts an international field with an impressive list of former winners including pro standouts Leona Maguire and major champions Georgia Hall and Anna Nordqvist.

The winner gains entry to the AIG Women’s Open, US Women’s Open, The Amundi Evian Championship in France and by tradition, an invite to compete at Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship.
