Mannat Brar is making her second appearance at the event
The Indian squad of Avani Prashanth, Vidhatri Urs, Mannat Brar, Keerthana Rajeev Nair, Saanvi Somu & Heena Kang are representing India at the region’s biggest event – the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) Championship at Siam Country Club in Pattaya, Thailand from Feb. 1-4.
While this is Avani’s fourth time at the tournament, Vidhatri and Mannat will play their second edition, while the other three will be making their debut.
Avani, ranked 40th in the world, plans on turning pro this year. In the last two weeks, she has already racked up a runner-up finish at the Women’s Australian Master of the Amateurs and a 11th place finish at the Australian Women’s Amateur Championship.
The WAAP winner gets a spot at three major pro championships in 2024 – the AIG Women’s Open, the Amundi Evian Championship and the Chevron Championship.
The winner also receives invitations to the 121st Women’s (British) Amateur Championship, the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) Championship, the Hana Financial Group Championship in Korea, and the Women’s Australian Open.
In the first five editions of the WAAP, players from Thailand (Atthaya Thitikul and Eila Galitsky), Japan (Yuka Yasuda and Mizuki Hashimoto) and Chinese Taipei (Ting-Hsuan Huang) emerged as winners.
The WAAP championship was developed by The R&A of St. Andrews and the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) to inspire future generations of women golfers.

2025 Mercedes Trophy nears National Final

Spotlight on juniors at Hero Indian Open
To turn the spotlight on juniors, the Indian Golf Union and The R&A started the Hero Indian Open week at DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurugram with a GolfSixes Junior Golf tournament in a fast-paced six-hole format, aiming to generate new interest for golf among kids. The Ladies European Tour (LET) wrapped up its Australian swing with the €300,000 Ford Women’s NSW Open at Wollongong Golf Club from March 20-23. The Indian contingent delivered strong performances, with Delhi’s 24-year-old Diksha Dagar leading the way at tied-11th, followed closely by 20-year-old Pranavi Urs of Mysuru at tied-14th, and Bangalore’s rookie, 18-year-old Avani Prashanth at tied-36th. Delhi Challenge: Arjun Prasad T6, Spaniard Vidal wins playoff battle
The European Challenge Tour’s annual US$300,000 Delhi Challenge at Classic Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, held from March 20-23, followed the trend from last week’s Kolkata Challenge at RCGC in Kolkata, with only one Indian making the top 10. Delhi’s Arjun Prasad secured a tied-sixth finish at 15-under 273 with consistent rounds of 68-68-70-67. The event, co-sanctioned by what is now called the HotelPlanner Tour, and PGTI, saw Spain’s 25-year-old Quim Vidal outduel England’s 19-year-old Joshua Berry in a dramatic playoff. Vidal (65-68-66-71) and Berry (69-66-67-68), the previous week’s winner in Kolkata, finished regulation play tied at 18-under 270.
