Anirban Lahiri, 36, the former PGA Tour player and a multiple-time champion on both the Asian and European Tours, is set to make a highly anticipated return to the US$ 2 million Hero Indian Open, the only European (DP World) Tour event staged in India.
Lahiri, now competing successfully on the LIV Golf Tour, has received approval from the European Tour to participate in the upcoming event at the DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurgaon since it is his National Open, just as has been done with LIV’s South African stars at tournaments played recently in their country.
Having secured victory in the 2015 edition of the Hero Indian Open, Lahiri last graced the event in 2019, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the Hero Indian Open has been held only once in 2023, with Marcel Siem claiming the title..
The prospect of witnessing Lahiri compete in the national open, an event he missed in 2023 should attract more fans. It marks a special moment for Indian golf enthusiasts eager to see their global star finally play on home soil.
