Anirban Lahiri, now in his third season on the LIV Tour, tragically missed a two-foot putt on the final green which would have given him the US$4 million individual title as well as the team title for his team The Crushers.

The missed putt sent him and his team into a double sudden-death playoff which ended up with losses in both.

Individually, Lahiri, now 37, carded rounds of 69-66-73 to finish at 5-under par, which put him into a tie with 2017 Masters champion Sergio Garcia who was playing on home turf at the famous Valderrama GC in Spain. Lahiri lost on the second extra hole, where he drove into the trees and couldn’t match Garcia’s par. This was Lahiri’s second playoff loss at LIV Golf.

Lahiri entered the final round with a solid four-shot lead, seemingly poised to end his nine-year winless streak in pro golf but the bogey on the final hole compared to Garcia’s fiery 65, led to a tie and the subsequent 2nd place finish.

Still, Lahiri earned US$2.25 million for his runner-up finish and an additional US$750,000 for his team Crushers GC’s second-place finish, totaling US$3 million (₹25 crores) from the event.

Significantly, Lahiri moved to 16th on the LIV Golf individual rankings, effectively securing his playing rights for the next season.

Lahiri’s previous 2nd place finishes were at his LIV Golf debut in Boston in 2022, where Dustin Johnson won and in Adelaide, Australia and Bedminster, New Jersey – both in 2023.

‘ Individual were:

2023 – 13th

2022 – 17th (Played in 4 events)
