As golf looks for greater recognition in India, the upcoming US$500,000 prize money HSBC European Legends Tour event being played this week at Jaypee Greens Golf Resort in Greater Noida, NCR region for players over age 50 shines a spotlight on the sport’s unique appeal as a lifelong pursuit.
Indeed the arrival of the Legends Tour underscores the longevity of professional golfers, who enjoy some of the longest careers among athletes. Jeev Milkha Singh, the tournament host and European Legends tour regular, at 53, has represented India internationally for almost 40 years now !
64 golfers aged 50 and above will compete in a 54 hole stroke play format for the winner’s cheque of US$74,000 (approximately Rs 62 lakhs).
The event will feature some of India’s most celebrated golfers : Jeev Milkha Singh , Jyoti Randhawa, Vijay Kumar of Lucknow and Mukesh Kumar from Mhow. The latter two have nearly 100 professional victories each over a span of two decades playing the pro circuit in India.

The field of 64 players will feature nine Indians, and five of the top-10 ranked players on the Legends Tour. Adilson Da Silva (Brazil) ranked 4th, Robert Coles (ENG) – 5th, James Kingston (RSA) – 8th, Keith Horne (RSA) – 9th & Clark Dennis (USA) – 10th.
The Legends Tour, formerly known as the European Senior Tour, is the official tour for players over 50 and is part of the PGA European Tour, alongside the DP World Tour and European Challenge Tour. The tour boasts a distinguished roster of participants, including former Major winners, World Number Ones, and Ryder Cup players and captains.
