Bangladesh’s seasoned Jamal Hossain claimed his fifth professional title at the IndianOil SERVO Masters, one of the oldest professional tour events in India, at Digboi Golf Links, Assam with a final round of one-under 71 and a total winning score of 12-under-par, winning by a slender one-shot margin.
This win comes as a welcome change for Hossain, who had come into the week with just 2 top-10 finishes this year.
Incidentally Jamal holds the record of being the first amateur to win on the PGTI, back in 2009. This win saw Jamal earning INR 12.75 lakh in prize money, propelling him 22 spots up on the TATA Steel PGTI Rankings to a respectable 17th place.
Hossain faced stiff competition, with four of the closest contenders tying for second place behind him; Gaurav Pratap Singh of Noida, who delivered the lowest round of the day with a sizzling 67, Delhi’s duo of Kapil Kumar and Sachin Baisoya, both shooting impressive 68s, and Pune’s Divyansh Dubey, consistent throughout with a final-round 70.
Udayan Mane and Samarth Dwivedi finished tied sixth at 10-under-par, while Sanjay Kumar of Lucknow made headlines with the lowest round of the tournament, an electrifying eight-under 64, to jump to tied 12th place at seven-under-par.
Meanwhile, local professional Deven Bhumij, the lone Digboi-based player to make the cut, ended tied 46th at six-over-par.
The PGTI rankings leader, Veer Ahlawat, was absent from action in Digboi but will be aiming to solidify his commanding lead at the Vishwa Samudra Open, scheduled from December 10–13 at Delhi Golf Club. With the India No. 1 title for the year in sight, the second-last event of the season offers Ahlawat an opportunity to cushion his position further.
