Beldih GC, Jamshedpur unveiled 3 floodlit holes

A few weeks after Delhi’s Jaypee Greens started 18 holes under floodlights, now Beldih Golf Club, founded in 1922, unveiled 3 floodlit holes and plans underway to illuminate the entire 9-hole course in future phases.

DLF Golf Club in Gurgaon had floodlit 9 holes two decades ago and two years ago, Mumbai’s BPGC had created 9 holes of floodlit golf to help busy professionals indulge in their favourite sport, especially in the hot summer when conditions are more favourable after sundown.

The unveiling of 3 holes with floodlights comes on the eve of the PGTI’s season-ending Rs 3 crore prize money Tata Steel Tour Championship played annually in Jamshedpur on the 18 holes consisting of the Beldih and Golmuri courses.

The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of prominent dignitaries, including DB Sundara Ramam – Jamshedpur Golf Captain and Vice President of Raw Materials, Tata Steel; Ritu Raj Sinha – Secretary of Jamshedpur Golf and MD of TSUISL; Neeraj Sinha – Chief of Safety, Tata Steel; and Arunava Das – Head of Water Management, Tata Steel.

Former PGTI veteran pro Digvijay Singh, CEO of Jamshedpur Golf, credited Ritu Raj Sinha as the driving force behind the initiative. Singh emphasised that the aim is to enable golfers, many of whom are busy professionals, to enjoy the game beyond daylight hours. Currently, three holes of the Par 3 course have been equipped with floodlights, with plans to extend the facility across the entire course in the near future.

“The floodlights will allow golfers to play even after sunset, especially during winter when days are shorter. In summer, the extended playing hours will further benefit the golfing community,” Singh added.

Jamshedpur, home to two renowned golf courses—Beldih Golf Course and Golmuri Golf Course—has long been a hub for the sport, with both facilities maintained by Jamshedpur Golf. The committee has played a significant role in fostering talent and promoting the game in the region.

An official from the Jamshedpur Golf Committee highlighted the critical role of Tata Steel in promoting sports infrastructure over the years. “Corporate houses like Tata Steel have been instrumental in nurturing sports in Jamshedpur. The launch of Night Golf further reflects their commitment to fostering a vibrant sports culture in the city,” the official said.

The introduction of Night Golf sets a new benchmark for cities in eastern India, enhancing Jamshedpur’s reputation as a sporting destination.
