Bryson DeChambeau was welcomed with a big gallery as he teed off

Even a thick morning fog and a one-hour delay could not put a damper on the electric atmosphere and the palpably restless energy of the massive crowds at the DLF Golf and Country Club, scrambling to witness 2-time U.S. Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau in action.

The tournament, backed by LIV Golf and part of the Asian Tour, teed off on Thursday, January 30.

Despite a gruelling schedule that included a visit to the Taj Mahal on Tuesday and a long Pro-Am day stretching from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, DeChambeau and his fellow LIV Golf players showed no signs of fatigue. He and 2-time PGA TOUR winner Joaquin Niemann of Chile were two under par with two holes remaining when play was suspended. A total of 42 players were unable to complete their rounds due to fading daylight and resumed their unfinished holes the next day, before the second round got underway.

Bryson delivered classy showmanship with a chip-in Eagle on the 8th Par-5 hole and kept the energy high with riveting action that had four birdies against four bogeys, lying at tied-4th position after 16 holes. Niemann, maintaining a bogey-free round until the par-4 14th hole, dropped his first shot of the tournament to fall back to 1-under-par, but wasted no time in brushing off the setback with a birdie on the very next hole. This bumped him back to 2-under-par, rejoining DeChambeau and three others in the tied-4th spot.

India’s very own Anirban Lahiri – LIV Golf’s Crushers’ team member – put together a standout round that saw him clawing back to contention with 2 birdies in the last 4 holes to finish at the tied-13th position with a final score of level-par 72.

Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra made an impressive recovery after a disastrous start that included a triple bogey and a bogey within his first five holes. He rallied with seven birdies and an eagle on his last hole to card a four-under-par round, securing a co-lead alongside Japan’s Kazuki Higa, who was four under with three holes left to play. Australian Aaron Wilkin was three under with six holes remaining when play was halted.

With three days of high-quality golf still ahead, some intense days and thrilling moments are yet to come. Fans can catch the action live on Sony LIV and JioTV (coverage on Eurosport).
