The Ladies European Tour’s (LET) 2025 season in Australia faced a major setback as the Australian WPGA Championship, scheduled for March 6-9 at The Palms Course, Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club, was cancelled due to the impact of Cyclone Alfred.

The WPGA Tour of Australasia, in coordination with the LET and local authorities, made the unprecedented decision to cancel the tournament before its scheduled start, prioritising safety due to forecasts of high rainfall, extreme winds, and potential flooding. Consultations were held with key stakeholders, including the Queensland Government, Gold Coast City Council, Mulpha Group, and Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club, before the final decision was made.

The Australian WPGA Championship was set to be the opening event of a three-week co-sanctioned stretch between the LET and the WPGA Tour of Australasia. The €350,000 event was also part of the broader Gold Coast Festival of Golf, which was similarly called off. While disappointing, officials have already begun preparations to resume the event in 2026.

The unexpected cancellation resulted in an uncertain week for players and officials alike. The Indian trio of Diksha Dagar, Pranavi Urs, and Avani Prashanth, who had traveled for the Australian swing, were forced into an unexpected break before their next competitive outing this week. The disruption also impacted scheduling and travel plans for multiple international players who had committed to the tour’s Australian leg.

Despite the setback, the LET and WPGA Tour of Australasia have resumed play, shifting their focus to the Australian Women’s Classic, in New South Wales from March 14-16 which will now be played as a 54-hole event.
