The recently-concluded Caddies Welfare Trust Members Charity Golf Tournament at DGC
Caddies are an integral part of the golfing ecosystem, providing vital support to players beyond just carrying clubs. Recognising their contributions, several golf clubs across India, including the Bombay Presidency Golf Club (BPGC) and Willingdon Sports Club (WSC) in Mumbai, Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) in Bangalore, and the Royal Calcutta Golf Course (RCGC), among many others have implemented welfare programs for caddies. Among these, the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) stands out with one of the longest-running initiatives, marked by its annual flagship event—the Caddies Welfare Trust (CWT) Members Charity Golf Tournament, held every March.

The annual event is organised by the Caddies Welfare Trust to raise funds for the welfare of caddies
The 11th edition of the tournament took place at the Delhi Golf Club on March 5 & 6, organised by the Caddies Welfare Trust to raise funds for the welfare of caddies. The event garnered significant support from sponsors and participants across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Trustee Gaby Juneja highlighted the generosity of players, noting that many contributed personal donations at the time of registration.
This year’s tournament witnessed participation from over 500 golfers, making it one of the largest editions to date. A total of 65 sponsors supported the event, representing various industries. Key sponsors included SRF Welfare Trust, Dixon, Triveni, Lacoste, Hero, BPTP, and Mitsubishi Corporation, among others. The tournament’s Overall Gross Winner was Rohan Galhotra, who secured victory with an under-par score of 71.

Caddies receive essential benefits as well as structured financial and non-financial assistance
Caddies play a crucial role in golf, offering strategic guidance that can influence a player’s performance. As professional golf leagues gain traction, the value of an experienced caddy is becoming more widely acknowledged. However, in India, caddies often earn minimal wages despite their indispensable role in the sport. To address these challenges, the Caddies Welfare Trust provides structured financial and non-financial assistance aimed at improving their standard of living.
Led by Chairman Kartik Bharat Ram, the Trust ensures that caddies receive essential benefits such as life and medical insurance, primary healthcare, eye and dental care, education support for their children, retirement subsidies, clothing, rations, and household essentials. The CWT conducts various welfare initiatives throughout the year, directly benefiting registered caddies and their families.
“The Delhi Golf Club has supported this initiative since 2013 by allocating the course annually for the CWT Members Charity Tournament. This event plays a pivotal role in raising funds to meet the financial and ancillary needs of caddies,” said Bharat Ram. He also recalled how legendary golfer Tiger Woods, recognising the significance of caddy welfare, donated Rs. 3 lakh to the Trust during his visit to Delhi Golf Club in 2014.
The Caddies Welfare Trust is recognised by the Government of India as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and is registered for tax exemptions under Section 80G.
