Carlos Ortiz won his 2nd International Series title and punched his ticket to The 153rd Open Championship

The $2 million International Series Macau, held last week, featured 18 LIV stars and 3 Major Champions—Patrick Reed (2018 Masters), Sergio Garcia (2017 Masters), and Graeme McDowell (2010 U.S. Open).

Yuvraj Sandhu of Chandigarh, who won back-to-back titles on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) last month, had been in the top-10 after rounds of 69-65-67, but he slipped after a final-round three-over 73 to finish tied-26th with a total of six-under 274.

Among other Indians in the field, LIV Golf regular Anirban Lahiri finished T-40 at four-under 276, Asian Tour star Gaganjeet Bhullar was tied-63rd, while veteran Shiv Kapur, the fourth Indian to make the cut, ended T-76 at six-over 286.

Mexico’s LIV Golf star Carlos Ortiz emerged victorious, edging out Patrick Reed by 3 strokes.

Ortiz, Reed, and 3rd-placed Jason Kokrak of USA all secured invitations for The 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush, Ireland, in July, as the event was part of The Open Qualifying Series.

With this win, Ortiz, a former PGA TOUR winner, moved to the top of the Asian Tour Rankings and The International Series Rankings. The 33-year-old has now booked his place at The Open for a second time, having previously played in 2021. Reed will make his 10th appearance, while Kokrak heads to his fifth Open Championship.

The Asian Tour breaks off for a month and resumes with the GS Caltex Maekyung Open at Namseoul Country Club in Seoul, Korea, scheduled from May 1-4. The inaugural International Series Japan will take place at Caledonian Golf Club the week after, further expanding the International Series’ footprint in Asia.
