Sethi Wins Samarvir Shahi Championship
17-year-old Delhi youngster Harshjeet Singh Sethie finally broke into the winning circle on the Indian amateur circuit with a 3-shot win over local hope Sanju Kumar and Haryana lad, and current IGU Order of Merit leader, Anant Singh Ahlawat at the Samarvir Shahi Amateur Championship (March 11-15) held at Chandigarh Golf Club.
Sethie had previously won International Albatross in 2009 and was ranked No. 1 on IGU Merit List (juniors, Category D) in 2012. He also triumphed in the 2017 Northern India Junior Golf Tournament held at Noida Golf Club.
Bhatia – The DJ World Challenge Champ
Akshay Bhatia, the No. 1 junior boy in the world, cruised to a record-setting victory at the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship (March 1-3) at TPC Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The 17-year-old from Wake Forest, North Carolina entered the final round with a two-stroke advantage and finished the tournament at 10-under par 206: six shots clear of second place Luke Clanton. In so doing, he shattered the event’s scoring record of 5-under par 211, previously held by Trent Phillips in 2017. Bhatia also equalled TPC Myrtle Beach’s 54-hole tournament record of 206, set in 2007 by East Tennessee State University’s Rhys Davies. Bhatia made his PGA TOUR debut at the Valspar Championship but missed the cut with rounds of 74 and 72.
Pranavi Competes At Prestigious Invitational
72 of the world’s best junior golfers together with 18 major winners teed off at the 2nd edition of Major Champions Invitational on March 4-7. With a total score of 29-under 619, 10-time major champion’s Annika Sorenstam’s team clinched the title at the par-72 Nick Faldo Bella Collina Golf Course. The team of Women’s British Open winner Georgia Hall finished runner-up; three strokes behind. Talented 15-year-old Pranavi Urs represented the team of 6-time major champion Nick Faldo which finished third with a total score of 17-under 631. The Mysuru teen also stood T-23 among ladies with a score of 5-over 221 over three rounds. The Major Champions Invitational was started by Sir Nick Faldo in 2018.
Keshav Mishra U-21 Faldo Asia Finals
Maharashtra lad Keshav Mishra, courtesy his win with a 2-under-par at the Faldo Series Asia Finals (March 20-22), became the fourth Indian to clinch the title after Rashid Khan in 2008 and 2009, Abhijit Chadha in 2011 and Arjun Prasad in 2016. The tournament was held at the immaculate Laguna Lang Co, a Nick Faldo designed course.
