Nishtha wins her maiden Collegiate Title

21-year-old Nishtha Madan, member of the Sacramento State golf team (the Hornets) claimed the individual title by four strokes at the UW Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on October 9. The senior shot 74-70-144 in the rain-shortened tournament to finish four strokes ahead of the closest competitor. The Hornets finished in fourth place in the team standings.
The win propels her to at 351, and No. 57 in the USA — in the WAGR and Golfweek rankings respectively. If Nishtha keeps these performances coming, she will be one of the hopefuls to receive an invite to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur event, scheduled for April 1-2, 2020.
The tournament marked the third top-three finish of her college career and followed her team-leading performance at the Princess Anne Invitational from October 4-6, where she shot 71-72-69-212.
In three tournaments this season, Madan is averaging 71.75 and has placed among the top 20 in each event. She also tied for fifth with Southern Utah’s Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan who shot 70-74-74-218 at the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational.
Sacramento State will also be competing at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawaii from October 28-30.

Green bags ‘Outstanding Woman in Golf’ Award

22-year-old Australian golfer Hannah Green won the prestigious ‘Outstanding Woman in Sport’ award at Australian Women’s Health magazine’s ‘Women in Sport’ Awards in Sydney.
Green enjoyed a breakout year on the LPGA Tour, winning the US $3.85 million 2019 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June, before winning again at the US $1.3 million Cambia Portland Classic.
Her world ranking has improved significantly — from above 140 to No.18 in the world — in 2019 alone.
“Hannah is a true champion, having won the Women’s PGA Championship in spectacular fashion in June this year,” Australian Federal Sports Minister Richard Colbeck said.
Hannah’s win was the first major win by an Australian woman since Karrie Webb at the 2006 Kraft Nabisco Championship and she is only the third Australian woman to win a major.
