16-year-old former Noida girl Anika Varma, now completing high school in Sacramento, California, shoots 69-72-70 (-5) for a wire-to-wire win at the American Junior Golf Association’s (AJGA) event in Nevada which bumped her up to 19th in the Golfweek US Junior Golf Rankings, the highest spot ever achieved by an Indian girl till date.

Talking about her winning week in Nevada, Anika said, “I have been working with my coach Noah Montgomery (also coach to Gaganjeet Bhullar) about my mindset and acceptance. It has helped me a lot to accept my performance and play golf just because I love this sport.”

Earlier this month, Anika finished runner-up at the 71st California Junior Girls’ State Championship, tied-19th at the Southwestern Amateur in Arizona and finished tied-5th at the California Women’s Amateur. She’s having a solid summer amateur season and plans to play college golf after graduating two years from now.
Anika is now headed to Illinois to play the 121st Women’s Western Amateur from July 19-24, one of the premier amateur events in USA.
