Reigning U.S. Open Champion and one of the sport’s most prominent figures, Bryson DeChambeau, is set to make his Indian debut at the International Series India, from January 30 to February 2, 2025, at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram. This event marks the first time a defending major champion will compete in an official tournament on Indian soil and offers an unprecedented opportunity to draw massive crowds and elevate the sport to new heights.

With a prize purse of USD 2 million, the event is the inaugural stop on the 2025 Asian Tour and LIV Golf-backed International series ten-event calendar.  It is the first of 10 events that will be held across Macau, Morocco, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia, with other destinations to be announced soon.

Bryson, the Crushers GC captain, who has seven PGA Tour wins and two major titles to his name, will play alongside Indian golfing icon and Arjuna Awardee Anirban Lahiri. Known for his unconventional approach to the game and a dynamic on-course persona, DeChambeau’s appeal extends far beyond traditional golf enthusiasts, making him a magnet for crowds and media attention.

Arguably the most followed figure in golf today, ,after Tiger Woods, DeChambeau commands a staggering online following with over 2 million subscribers on YouTube and 1.6 million followers on Instagram. His ability to engage younger, tech-savvy audiences has transformed him into a digital ambassador for the sport, a role that could have profound implications for golf’s growth in India. If positioned effectively, his participation at DLF could shatter attendance records and ignite interest in the game among a broader demographic, especially the younger generation.

With the right positioning, DeChambeau’s debut can inspire a new wave of interest, giving the sport the “shot in the arm” it needs in India to reach untapped audiences. From schools and clubs to corporate sponsors and government initiatives, the ripple effects of this event could lead to investments in infrastructure, grassroots programs, and future tournaments.

The event in India will also serve as a gateway for Indian players aspiring to join the LIV Golf League, with the series champion earning a guaranteed spot in the league next season.

As January 2025 approaches, the focus remains firmly on DeChambeau and DLF GC. Will this be the moment that golf captures the imagination of a cricket-loving nation? With his star power and India’s growing appetite for world-class sports, the stage is set for a spectacle that could redefine the future of golf in the country.
