Justin Thomas equalled the record for the largest final-round comeback at the PGA Championship to claim his second major title, in a playoff over Will Zalatoris with the overnight leader Mito Pereira double bogeying the 72nd hole to miss out.
Thomas started the day seven shots behind 54-hole leader Mito Pereira and played the last 10 holes in four-under to post a 67, and be the low score in the clubhouse at 5-under 275.
Still, it looked like it wouldn’t be enough as rookie Mito Pereira held a one-shot lead with one hole to play over Thomas and Zalatoris. However, the Chilean sliced his drive into a creek and wound up with a gut wrenching double-bogey, which dropped him one-shot out of the playoff.

Thomas and Zalatoris then battled it out for the Wanamaker Trophy in a three-hole aggregate playoff in which Thomas went two under and Zalatoris, one under to give Thomas the title.
Thomas had previously won the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, where he also came up clutch down the stretch with a birdie on the 17th hole. Now he has 15 PGA Tour titles and has proven that his desire to win is second to none.
This was Zalatoris’s second runner-up finish in a major. In 2021, he finished one shot behind Hideki Matsuyama at The Masters. In nine career majors, Zalatoris already has six top-10 finishes.
