Kartik and Zara will represent India at the 4th Royal Junior in Japan
Fifteen-year-old Kartik Singh and sixteen-year-old Zara Anand have been selected to represent India at the fourth edition of The Royal Junior tournament, scheduled from April 17-20 at The Royal Golf Club in Japan. This prestigious event, organized by Nippon Kabaya Ohayo Holdings Inc., is sanctioned by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) and The R&A, with support from the Japan Golf Association and the Japan High School and Junior High School Golf Association.
The Royal Junior aims to nurture the next generation of world-class golfers by promoting not only technical skills but also the values of courtesy and ethics. The competition features 36 holes of stroke play over two days, with 12 junior boys and 12 junior girls selected to participate.
Winners of both the boys’ and girls’ categories earn entry into The Amateur Championship and The Women’s Amateur Championship, respectively. These tournaments, scheduled to take place in June this year, are among the most prestigious amateur championships in the world.
In the previous edition of The Royal Junior last year, Avani Prashanth, who was India’s top-ranked lady amateur then, had achieved a commendable tied-second place finish with rounds of 74-74-75 on the challenging 7,000-yard course. The Indian boys’ contingent, comprising Anshul Mishra, Rakshit Dahiya, and Prince Baisla, faced challenges on the 8,000-yard course, which is longer than typical professional tour courses.
