18 Hole Monday qualifiers to get into events on the PGA Tour are one of the toughest tests in golf. From around 150 players, only the top 2-3 qualify which means scores have to be really low. On Monday this week, Anirban Lahiri, India’s lone ranger on the PGA Tour shot an awesome 7 under par 65 but then lost in a sudden death playoff to miss out on the last spot for the US$ 7.3mn Phoenix Open.
Lahiri birdied the 18th to get into a playoff but missed a three-footer to miss out.
In this current PGA Tour season, Lahiri has made a creditable five cuts in the seven events he’s played, with one Top-10, earning over US$300,000 (Just over ₹2 crore) in the process.
