Just days after the completion of the Asian Games golf team selection trials in Bangalore, the Indian contingent was disappointed to hear that the Olympics Council of Asia (OCA) has postponed the 2022 Asian Games, which were scheduled to be held from September 10 to 15 in Hangzhou, China, to 2023 due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
The teams announced were: Men – Anirban Lahiri, Shubhankar Sharma and Viraj Madappa; Ladies – Aditi Ashok, Tvesa Malik, Avani Prashanth.
The OCA, the governing body for the Game, said it will announce the new dates soon.
“The Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee has been very well prepared to deliver the Games on time despite global challenges. However, the above decision was taken by all the stakeholders after carefully considering the pandemic situation and the size of the Games,” the OCA said in a statement.
The host city of Hangzhou is just 200km away from Shanghai, the epicentre of the latest COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
