A Big Myth About Golf

I was in my mid-forties when I decided to start playing a non-contact sport like golf in order to avoid the kind of injuries attributed to contact sports. Little did I know that Golf like other sports, does require considerable physical fitness and flexibility and that injuries are very common.

Professional golfers, in spite of their personal support teams, do suffer injuries regularly. Amateur and weekend golfers have an equal, if not greater, share of golf related injuries.

It is a game where we perform the same action repeatedly over periods of time and this wear and tear of joints and muscles is the primary cause of golf related injuries. The most frequent injuries being of the lower back, shoulder, elbow, wrist and the knees and I have had my share.

Physiotherapy used to provide some relief but most of it was temporary and this only added to my frustration till someone recommended a visit to VARDĀN, an initiative of the Times Group.

Was it another physiotherapy clinic, I enquired?

No. Unlike physiotherapy, VARDĀN specialises in Functional Manual Therapy®️ (FMT™) where no gadgets are used to treat the patient.

I decided to visit VARDĀN (www.vardan.in) and was delighted to receive treatment and advice that completely eliminated my golf related injury problems and in fact helped improve my game.

What truly impressed me at VARDĀN were the diagnostic skills of the doctors in getting things right the first time. I was initially quite bemused by their treatment methods. When I had shoulder and rotator cuff pain, the doctor manipulated the scapular muscles in my back and prescribed exercises for that. At first, I didn’t see the connection.

When my knees hurt, they worked on my hip joint, corrected my swing posture and discouraged use of  pain balms or sprays which provide only temporary relief . When we continue to play the game with pain killers, we unknowingly continue to damage the same specific ligaments and muscles. FMT actually goes to the root cause and creates permanent solutions.

A by-product of my visits to VARDĀN is that my golf handicap has improved.
