15-year-old golfing prodigy Kartik Singh claimed the top spot yet again in the IGU West Bengal Junior Boys Championship at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata. Kartik closed the event with a 5-under 65 in the final round, finishing with a total score of 16-under-par. He etched his name in the history books during the third round, where he set a new course record with an impressive 7-under-par.
Kartik’s consistent play, highlighted by four birdies in the back nine during the final round, helped him stay ahead of Chandigarh’s Krish Chawla, who finished second with a score of 13-under 267. Delhi’s Ranveer Mitroo rounded out the top three with a total of 5-under-par.
Punjab’s Danish Verma (75-68-71-70) from B Boys carded a final score of 284 and secured the position of the runner-up. Haryana’s Prince Bainsla (72-75-73-73) scored a total of 293 and became the second runner-up from B Boys.
It was a week of historic firsts on the National Junior Golf Tour, with Kashika Mishra becoming the first girl from Odisha to win an Indian Golf Union Championship. Competing in the IGU Northern India Ladies and Junior Girls Championship at Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida, Mishra surged from fifth place on Day 1 to clinch victory with a total score of 11-under-par.
The 17-year-old finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Mannat Brar and not only topped the leaderboard in the junior girls’ A category (15-18 years), but also emerged as the winner in the open category for Amateurs (18 years and above) – a creditable feat for a junior player.
Her win adds to an impressive year, with Kashika securing a WAGR (World Amateur Golf Ranking) at the age of 16 in May 2023. She has represented Odisha in the National Games in November 2023 and has also been part of Team India in events in Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia. Kashika is now ranked among India’s top 10 amateur golfers and is on track to break into the top 5.
