26-year-old Aditi Ashok, playing her 31st major, finished tied-17th among all the best players in the world, at the US$8 million Evian Championship in France, marking her best-ever major finish with rounds of 71-70-67-69 for a total of 7-under par, 277.
If this was the Olympic tournament, Aditi would have finished 6th as from the Olympic qualifiers, only five players finished ahead of her at Evian: Patty Tavatanakit (Thailand), Esther Henseleit (Germany), Hyo Joo Kim (South Korea), Peiyun Chien (Chinese Taipei), and Paula Reto (South Africa). If Aditi can lift her game just a little, she could very well contend for a medal in Paris, in three weeks.
Aditi’s performance showed continuous progress: she was tied-52nd after 18 holes, tied-44th after 36 holes, tied-22nd after 54 holes, and finished tied-17th. Her previous best major finish was tied-22nd at the Women’s British Open in 2018.
Diksha Dagar, the 2nd Indian lady player qualified for Paris, carded an opening round 76 but had to withdraw thereafter due to viral fever and throat infection.
