The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) announced the appointment of Amandeep Johl as its new CEO on November 13, effective January 2025. With a distinguished career spanning almost three decades in Indian golf, Johl’s appointment comes alongside the recent addition of cricket legend Kapil Dev as PGTI President, marking a new leadership phase for the tour.
Johl will succeed the current CEO, Uttam Singh Mundy, who has been instrumental in growing the tour to exponential heights since 2009. Under Mundy’s leadership, PGTI has achieved major milestones, including joining the ‘Official World Golf Ranking’ (OWGR) system, partnering with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, and significantly increasing prize money, now exceeding INR 25 crore per season.
“This is probably the most important role of my golfing career,” Johl remarked upon his appointment, acknowledging the significant foundation laid by Mundy, who has played a key role in establishing the PGTI as India’s premier professional golf tour. His deep-rooted connection to the game could serve as the catalyst for attracting more international talent to the Indian tour, while fostering the next generation of homegrown players.
Under Johl’s leadership, PGTI is expected to continue its mission of nurturing and supporting Indian golf, fostering local talent, and promoting the game across the country. With the support of Kapil Dev’s presence and Johl’s experience, the expectations are high as Indian golf looks to scale new heights.
