Anika Varma, the 17-year-old originally from Noida who’s family moved a few years ago to Sacramento, California, shot 75-74-71 (4-over 220) to finish third on the Cactus Pro Tour in Arizona, two shots behind winner Kelly Hooper.

In 2020-21, Varma played several Cactus Pro Tour events in Arizona, with her best finish being a tie for 2nd in March. In October 2019, the then 15-year-old Varma posted a fabulous fifth-place finish at the Ladies European Tour’s Hero Women’s Indian Open at DLF Golf & CC, Gurgaon. She is still an amateur player and represented India last November in Abu Dhabi, finishing 9th at the prestigious Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific (WAAP) Championship – the best finish ever by a player representing India.

Varma will play for the Oregon University’s Women’s Golf Team from 2022 to 2026 instead of joining the professional ranks. She trains under Noah Montgomery in California and enjoyed an exceptionally successful summer playing highly competitive California amateur events.
