Pro Golf – Women’s PGA Championship
22-year-old Nelly Korda belongs to a family of elite athletes, and she proved this yet again by shooting 73-63-68-68 (19-under 269) to claim her maiden major title at the US$ 4.3mn Women’s PGA Championship on the LPGA Tour.
It’s only June, and the Korda family has collected five titles – Nelly Korda (3), Jessica Korda (1 on the LPGA Tour) and their brother Sebastian Korda (1 ATP Tennis Tour title) and all three will represent the USA, albeit in two different sports at the Tokyo Olympics next month.
Korda won for the second straight week — her third LPGA title this year — and it was enough to become the first American woman to claim the No. 1 ranking since Stacy Lewis in 2014. Jin Young Ko of South Korea held the No.1 spot for close to two years. Korda also became the first American woman to win a major since Angela Stanford at the 2018 Evian Championship.
