Two-time U.S. Open winner, Bryson DeChambeau, may become the first reigning major champion to compete in a professional golf tournament in India, if the Asian Tour’s US$2 Million International Series comes to DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon as expected, from January 30 to February 2, 2025.
The International Series is a set of 10 events on the Asian Tour, each carrying US$2 million purses which are funded by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which also funds the LIV Golf Tour, where De Chambeau plays.
This event, once it is confirmed, will also have a significant homecoming aspect for Anirban Lahiri, DeChambeau’s teammate on LIV Golf’s Crushers squad along with Paul Casey and Charles Howell III, who are also expected to join. Lahiri has been vocal about his excitement, noting that the event represents a historic moment for Indian golf fans. According to him, “If Bryson is there, it would be massive for Indian golf.” He went on to add that DeChambeau’s presence could spark a new wave of interest in golf, given the star’s popularity and ability to draw fans through both his game and social media presence.
While the final confirmation is still pending, speculation around DeChambeau’s likely debut in India hints at a new, exciting chapter for golf in India.
