Arjun Atwal, the now 51-year-old trailblazer and only Indian to win on the PGA TOUR, achieved a remarkable tied-5th place finish at the US$ 2.85 million Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie, Scotland. Playing in his second season as a senior, Atwal carded rounds of 75-68-67-76 .

Entering the final round in solo third at 6-under, just two strokes behind South Korea’s KJ Choi, the 54-hole leader and eventual champion, Atwal’s final round of 76 saw him drop down the leaderboard, yet he secured a top-5 finish with a final hole birdie – tying Anirban Lahiri for the best-ever finish by an Indian in a major championship.

In 2024, Atwal has made the cut in all six events he has played on the highly competitive PGA Champions Tour, and this finish should help him secure full playing rights for the 2025 season based on his year end rankings.
Jeev Milkha Singh, who has full playing rights on the Senior European Tour, carded rounds of 73-76-76-73 (10-over 298) to finish tied-45th.
The other Indian veteran great, Jyoti Randhawa, in his first season on the Senior Tour after topping the Tour qualifier in January, carded rounds of 76-80 (+12), missing the cut by five strokes.
