Avani Prashanth stands tied-9th after 54 holes at the event in Australia

The Australian Masters of the Amateurs 2023 is one of the elite amateur events tomorrow and has seen tough conditions in the first two days of its 26th edition at Southern Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.

The field for the 2023 Australian Master of the Amateurs Championship is 102 male players and 54 female players. The field size has been capped at a total of 156 players. The 72-hole stroke championships has a cut after 54-holes which is an interesting departure from the usual 36 hole cut and could be a fairer model considering the distance players travel these days to participate in tournaments. The top 45 male championship players plus ties and the top 25 female players plus ties, play the final round.

In the Indian contingent at the tournament Avani Prashanth lies 10th halfway through Round 3 at +3 ( she is 5 under for Rd 3) while Nishna Patel is at +16.
Among the Boys Shaurya Bhattacharya is at +4 while Aryan Roopa Anand struggled with +16.

Cold temperatures and 45 mile winds are conditions Indian players are not used to. They also had only one practice round which got curtailed to 12 holes due to thunder and lightning in the area. Not enough to acclimatise after having travelled 12 hours to reach the destination just outside of Sydney.
