Avani 11th in Australia – jumps to 39th in world rankings

Avani has climbed steadily in the world Amateur rankings

17 year old  Avani Prashanth, the Asia Pacific Women’s Individual Champion ( Queen Sirikit Cup) followed up her 2nd place finish the previous week in Australia with another solid performance with rounds of 72-75-75-73 to end 11th finish at the highly competitive Australian Amateur Championship at Yarra Yarra Golf Club in Melbourne.

With these two consistent weeks, Avani jumped to 39th in the World Amateur Rankings, the best ever rank since Aditi reached 11 in 2015, assuring her an invitation to the US Women’s and Girls Amateur championships this summer and most likely an invitation to the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur in April. 

Heena Kang, the other Indian participant in the tournament, carded consecutive rounds of 80 to miss the cut.  

Japan’s Mamika Shinchi, the former World No.2 amateur emerged winner by a two-stroke margin at a total score of 10-under 282.  Amelia Harris from Australia had to settle for a runner-up finish two shots behind..

On the men’s side, Varun Muthappa shot 74-73-77-76 to register a tied-77th finish at 18-over 300.
Sandeep Yadav, the 2022 All India Champion, carded 71-78 and Rohit Narwal shot 78-75 to miss the cut in the tournament.
