Avani 5th in Scotland

One of the perks of participating at the Junior British Open is you get to visit the men’s British Open too

Bangalore teen Avani Prashanth, who is 3rd among 15 year olds  in the World Rankings, shot 75-76-75 (10-over 226) to finish 5th among girls at the R&A’s prestigious Junior Open in Scotland, which was open to players under 16 years of age. 

India’s entry among boys Sukhman Singh, son of long-time Indian amateur International Simarjeet Singh from Noida, shot 76-82-76 to finish at 18-over 232.

Two weeks ago, Avani, who is the All India Champion and supported by AllCArgo Logistics and Cholamandalam Finance made the cut in her first ever Ladies European Pro Tour event, the Amundi German Masters. She has completed a hectic few weeks in Europe after playing the Women’s Amateur in England, the German Masters and then the R&A Juniors in Scotland. This week Avani is in Paris for the European Ladies Championship and she returns to Carnoustie, Scotland for the R&A Under 18 Girls event on August 5th.

This European Ladies Amateur Championship is being played outside Paris from July 20-23 at Golf de Saint-Germain, which has hosted the French Open nine times, the world’s first amateur team championship for women in 1964 and the european amateur team championship for women in 1999.

The top 144 ladies golfers compete for the win in a format consisting of four rounds of stroke play, with a cut after the third round, out of which the lowest 60 ladies’ scores, including ties, qualify for the final round.
