Two-time All India Ladies champion, 16-year-old Avani Prashanth shoots 68-66 (10-under 134) to hold a massive lead of seven-strokes over the field at the 43rd Queen Sirikit Cup at Manila Southwoods Golf & CC in Manila, Philippines.
As the tournament progresses with two more rounds remaining, the possibility of witnessing the first-ever Indian winner of the competition seems very much a possibility.
In the 2022 edition of the tournament, team India secured a 9th place finish with a score of 13-over 589. Among the Indian players, Sneha Singh emerged as the top performer with a tied-14th position, scoring 75-72-74-69 (2-over 290) in Singapore.
The Queen Sirikit Cup, known as the Asia-Pacific Amateur Ladies Golf Team Championship, is an annual event organized by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation for amateur women golfers. This team-based tournament features three players representing their respective countries, competing over four rounds to determine the champion. The team’s score is calculated based on the best two rounds played by each player.
Last month, Prashanth had finished sixth at the prestigious Australian Masters of the Amateurs Championship at Southern Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.
