Avani Prashanth, recently crowned Queen Sirikit Cup winner, was invited back to the Sage Valley Junior Invitational in South Carolina, USA which attracts some of the best junior golfers from around the world and is recognized by GolfWeek as the #1 junior event in golf.
This was thanks to her finishing sixth in the event last year and her subsequent success in India, Europe, Kenya and the crowning glory of winning the Queen Sirikit Cup in Manila by 10 strokes, beating the top lady players from all across Asia-Pacific.
However, this time Avani struggled on the lightning fast greens as she shot 80-73-81 (18-over 234) to finish tied 20th in a format where boys and girls compete side by side.
Avani continues to earn global recognition thanks to her stellar play at the Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific Golf Championship in Abu Dhabi last November and by winning the All India Junior and the stroke play and match play titles of the All India Women’s Amateur. She’s ranked among the top-5 16-year-old amateurs in the world.
