15-year-old Kartik Singh and 17-year-old Avani Prashanth, both top-ranked Indians on the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), are once again in the USA to represent India at the Junior PGA Championship at the prestigious Congressional Country Club in Washington, DC, which has hosted four majors, including three U.S. Opens and a PGA Championship.
Avani started her campaign with consecutive rounds of 71, placing her T-8 at 1-under par halfway through the event. Meanwhile, Kartik struggled in the opening round with a 76 but made a strong comeback with a 70 in the second round, placing him T-43 at 3-over par. The duo has previously represented India at various prestigious international events, including the Sage Valley Junior Invitational in South Carolina.

Last week, Kartik was unable to participate in the prestigious US Junior Amateur due to travel issues returning from Scotland when a massive IT outage disrupted air traffic out of Edinburgh airport. Meanwhile, Avani creditably reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Junior Girls’ Championship in California.
The Junior PGA Championships are open to amateurs no older than 18 years on August 2. Contestants must have qualified through a PGA of America Section Championship or have been granted an exemption. The four-day, 72-hole event features 312 players—156 girls and 156 boys—playing concurrently. The first two rounds are on both the Blue and Gold Courses at Congressional, with the final two rounds exclusively on the Blue Course.
