35-year-old Gaganjeet Bhullar, an 11-time winner on the Asian Tour, carded rounds of 75-69 to finish tied-14th at a total score of even-par 144 to miss becoming one of the three golfers to qualify for LIV Golf 2024 through the LIV Golf Promotions, a 72-hole qualifier played over three days at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The tournament was played from Dec.8-10 with Gaganjeet Bhullar gaining entry through his 8th position on the Asian Tour’s International Series Order of Merit, courtesy of his dominating win at the BNI Indonesian Masters.
Joining Bhullar at the tournament was Karandeep Kochhar, who earned his spot based on his 15th place standing on the Asian Tour’s International Series Order of Merit. Unfortunately, Kochhar fell short in the first round, shooting an even-par 72 and missing the cut by two strokes.
The tournament featured a highly competitive field of 73 top golfers, selected through invitation only, with 60 players competing in the initial round. The top 20 from the opening round then faced off against the remaining 13 in a bid to qualify for the final two rounds. The ultimate prize at stake was a coveted LIV Golf card for the 2024 season, with the top three finishers earning this prestigious status.
Among the triumphant players securing LIV Golf status were Zimbabwean Kieran Vincent, brother of Torque GC’s Scott Vincent, who plays on the LIV Golf circuit. Finland’s Kalle Samooja emerged victorious in the qualifier, showcasing exceptional skills, while Jinichiro Kozuma of Japan secured a coveted spot, rounding out the trio of qualifiers for the 2024 season.
So Anirban Lahiri will continue to be the only Indian playing the LIV Golf League in 2024.
