Misty Fairways by Hari Achanta is now available to order

Well known Bangalore golfer Hari Achanta has authored a brilliant coffee table book entitled Misty Fairways – Golf in the Southern Highlands, which is a delight to anyone who enjoys splendid golf photography, recollecting the origins of the game in India and how it is being preserved by a few dedicated people and institutions.

Excellent photographs by professional photographer Arvind Chenji capture the splendour and nostalgia around the clubs and the author has delved deeply into the character of each unique course.

The author also draws attention to the need to preserve the ecology of the hills and implores golfers to “actively participate in putting a stop to irresponsible growth, deforestation, destruction of bio-diversity and wildlife habitats to ensure rejuvenation of these beautiful hills”. He says “If this is not done on a war footing, the hill stations, their clubs and golf courses will cease to have an appeal.” We would agree wholeheartedly !

Certainly if this book can motivate golfers to travel around South India experiencing these picturesque courses and help preserve them for future generations, the book will have served a larger purpose, which is of utmost importance.

The book has come together so well only because Hari has immersed himself for years in the history and ethos of the game and  has been able to rally the support of the clubs themselves, a number of knowledgeable golfers and commercially, the support of two dedicated and generous golfers from South India, Sumit Rathor and Rajagopal Reddy. Well known TV Sports Presenter Charu Sharma has written the Foreword.
