Mannat Brar ended her season with a win at the All India Ladies and Junior Girls Golf Championship in Visakhapatnam

India’s top-ranked junior lady golfer, Pune’s Mannat Brar, was crowned the winner of the 2024 All India Ladies and the Junior Girls Golf Championship, held at East Point Golf Club in Visakhapatnam from December 17-20. Due to persistent rainfall, the 4-day event was reduced to three days, with the final round being washed out. As a result, the championship standings were determined after the first three rounds of competitive play.

17-year-old Brar, who recently made history by becoming the first Indian to reach the semifinals at the R&A Girls Amateur Championship in England, demonstrated exceptional form throughout the event. Earlier this year, she was also the best-placed Indian at the Hero Women’s Indian Open (HWIO) 2024 in October.

In Visakhapatnam, Brar finished with rounds of 75-74-71, totaling 4-over-par, narrowly edging out Chandigarh’s Heena Kang, who finished as the runner-up, just one stroke behind.

In Category C, the initial 3-day championship was reconfigured to a 2-day event where Jaipur’s Ojaswini Saraswat secured her fifth national title with an impressive margin of 14 strokes after two rounds.

At just 13 years old, she has had an extraordinary year. Ojaswini began the season with an unprecedented 25-under-par victory at the Asian Junior Masters in Thailand, setting a world record for the lowest score over three days. Her impressive run continued with second-place finishes at the European Championship in Scotland and the World Championship at Pinehurst, where she posted the second-best score in the event’s history at 18-under-par.

A member of Rambagh Golf Club in Jaipur, she currently holds the top spot in the Indian Golf Union (IGU) Category C Rankings and has been ranked No. 1 in the category for five consecutive years.
