Last week’s Dunhill Cup at St. Andrews Scotland, a major stop on the European (DP World) Tour turned out to be the usual celebrity magnet that it is expected to be. Celebrities spotted playing included cricketers Lord Ian + Botham, Kevin Pietersen, Michael Vaughn, Stuart Broad & Allan Lamb; Soccer stars Gareth Bale & Ruud Gullit, Hollywood actors Dave Ferrell, Kathryn Newton, Matthew Goode, Andy Garcia & Catherine Zeta Jones, Singers Ronan Keating & Huey Lewis and British Olympic Legend Sir Stephen Redgrave plus American football superstar quarterback John Elway.

In the past the likes of Justin Timberlake, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, Michael Douglas and many others have all participated in the event.

The tournament is a pro-am, with the format based on the long-running United States PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am held annually since 1937 where teams consist of one amateur and one professional.

The pros have a cutoff to the top 60 individuals after they play the three courses by rotation consisting of The Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Links and Kingsbarns Golf Links. The 54-hole cut is made of the top 60 professionals and the leading 20 pro-am teams, regardless of the professional member of the team making the individual cut. These players and teams advance to the final round at St Andrews.

In the individual event, 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick of England secured a 3 shot victory shooting 67-64-66 (19-under 197), over defending champion Ryan Fox of NZ, and two others. Indians Shubhankar Sharma and Manu Gandas were in the field but neither made it to the final day.

Due to heavy rains persisting on both Saturday and Sunday, the tournament was forced to be condensed into a 54-hole competition, ultimately extending to a Monday finish.
